Winchester
A development of eight apartments on the west side of Chilbolton Avenue. The site is bounded by rows of mature beech trees to the front, with spectacular views over the Royal Winchester Golf Course.
The scheme we have designed comprises two buildings with a good gap between, designed as a green landscaped link between the two key features of the site – the ‘fingers’ of trees lining Chilbolton Avenue and the golf course.
The double-gabled roof to each block presents a domestic and familiar form, with lower eaves to the road frontage, and the sense of a Mews-like space between the buildings, animated by front doors, and affording views of the golf course and countryside beyond.
A palette of high quality materials has been selected which sits comfortably and weathers well within this treed setting. The use of timber provides a soft and natural link between the verdant frontage to the site and the open countryside beyond.
