This new build, five bedroom contemporary dwelling replaces a 1960’s three bedroom bungalow. Given the sensitive, low-rise village location the design challenge was to provide additional floorspace on an upper level with greater ambition than a ‘chalet bungalow’. The design respects the scale of the adjacent neighbours which are both converted bungalows which have extended upwards. The restrained palette of materials places a timber clad, cantilevered first floor ‘box’ above a white rendered base.
